Headquartered in Newport Beach, California, it originally served as an intrastate carrier designed to connect major population centers across California. It focused its hub operations at Orange County Airport (now known as John Wayne Airport).Air California operated 31 Boeing 737 aircraft throughout its operational history until it was acquired by American Airlines in 1987.
